Comes Rosh Hashana, the anniversary of Adam’s declaration of Hashem’s
Kingship, and our mission is the same as his; we say pesukim of Malchios and
crown Hashem as King over us.
Hashem has many middos (traits) which He displays for us to see. For instance,
Hashem’s chessed is present in the world, and we can choose to recognize it or
not to, but this middah of chessed is present regardless if we see it. Hashem’s
middah of “malchus”, kingship, is different; it is only present if we recognize
and accept His Kingship. Otherwise, it cannot be considered “malchus”,
Kingship. Thus, we are literally “crowning” Hashem on Rosh Hashana when
we accept His Kingship. It is us who make him King:
םכילע ינוכילמתש ,תויכלמ ינפל ורמא ,לארשיל ה”בקה רמא“
- Hashem says to Klal Yisroel, say before me [pesukim of] my kingship - in
order that you crown Me King over yourselves”.
